For Mum in the Delivery Room

  • Comfortable baggy top and track pants.
  • A jacket, jersey, or cardigan and a pair of woolly socks, as it is common for women to feel cold during established labour.
  • Hair ties to keep your hair off your face.
  • Toiletry bag with toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo, and conditioner.
  • Lip balm, as your lips may get quite chapped.
  • Snacks for you and your labour support—think high-energy options like nuts, muesli bars, bananas, dried fruit, dark chocolate, and granola.
  • Water Bottle
  • iPod, iPad, books, e-books, or magazines for early labour, as you may have a long wait at the hospital, especially if you are induced.
  • Phone Charger
  • Phone
  • Portable speaker
  • Large-size maternity pads/ disposable absorbent underwear

For Mum in the Hospital

  • Two or three baggy, breastfeeding friendly pjs 
  • Socks.
  • Two or three nursing bras or singlets.
  • Breast pads.
  • Plenty of underwear and / or disposable absorbent underwear
  • Maternity pads
  • Your usual overnight toiletries, including toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant, hairbrush, hair bands, makeup, moisturizers and nipple cream.
  • Glasses or contact lenses if needed
  • Comfortable casual clothes—loose-fitting clothes are best as you may be sore.
  • Peri-bottle
  • Plastic bags for dirty clothes 
  • Any medications you are currently taking and any multivitamins to support energy levels during birth and recovery.
  • Extra snacks—hospital food is available, but your appetite will likely increase.

For the Birthing Partner

  • Shorts or togs and a change of clothes for joining you in the birthing pool or assisting with showering after birth.
  • A change of clothes to freshen up if needed.
  • Toothpaste and toothbrush.
  • Mobile phone and charger.

  • Snacks—they may not be hungry throughout, but having food on hand is helpful.

For Baby

  • An infant car seat, tested in your car, for the trip home.
  • Baby clothes and a blanket for going home.
  • Socks and beanie as babies feel cold while adjusting to life outside the womb.
  • 3 to 4 singlets 
  • 3 to 4 bodysuits.
  • Disposable or reusable newborn nappies 
  • Baby wipes
  • Baby bum cream

  • Portable white noise machine
